Today, I will face my indelible death
My life will be silenced, though I am still unborn
My Momma’s eyes, stained with sorrow
As she wipes away the tears, her cheeks have worn
But she promises to herself, that she won’t mourn
For I am a product of her illegitimate mistake
A consequence of a love, forbidden and torn
And eradicating me is her only route of escape

Though there is no glimpse of light where I am hidden
I know the world beyond this womb is filled with colour
That there is transcendental beauty my eyes will never see
And a life I will never have the chance to savour
Defenselessly I will descend to ashes
By a remorseless choice made from shame
My loveless existence will be aborted
And my fathomless dreams, buried in a grave

Never will I consume my first breath of air
Or experience the effervescence of laughter
Never will I know the meaning of love
Or envision my future from hereafter
If only at this moment, I was given a voice
To speak to Momma and comfort her woes
If only at this moment, I was given a choice
To accept the gift of life, and all that follows

Powerless, I may be
But Momma, please
If you can hear my thoughts
Don’t abandon me
Please cherish your inner strength
To give birth to me
Listen to the love in your heart
To give life to me

I promise that my presence
Will diminish all your burdens
For the stars have brought me to you
To show you the love you deserve
I’m a gift in disguise, Momma
So please, just wait a while
I’m just like you in every way
I have your eyes, I have your smile

Don’t let them take me away from you
Because Momma
I love you
I truly do
So please
If you can hear my plea
Just know that
This life will mean a lot to me
It’s not too late to change your mind
So Momma please, I beg you
Let me live.
I am very much PRO-CHOICE. I believe that women should have the right to choose what happens to their body without being harrassed by other people. There are many circumstances where abortion is the best option.

But I saw a movie where the pregnant mother (who was raped) was psychotic and she heard her baby/foetus talk to her and it just broke my heart to see that. After that, just as she was about to get her baby aborted, she changed her mind. Either way, it brought me to tears and I thought I would write a poem based on that.

No religion debates. Thank you.

Wow, this is so sad and yet so true and precise. If only unborn children could speak. This should be put up in every single abortion clinic throughout the world.

This is very powerful, I am also pro choice and of the Christian faith. This has happened to my x-wife, the baby would have been our third. I supported her decision, she said something in her said it was best. I think women ''know'' when things like this is necessary. Our divorce was more than ten years later, I knew the child was mine, it was not decided fast or for selfish reasons. A few years later her heart started having problems that required surgery, so maybe this is why her body felt like this was the right thing to do. I feel God has a special place for these babies and one day I will meet my child that I could not have here. Thanks for a beautiful poem. ,,,,Clark

*Just gawks for a moment.* . . . It almost brought me to tears, almost. But, that's a good thing. I never cry over anything, not pain, not hunger, nothing. But that, ALMOST brought me to tears. . . You's a very powerful writer.

Well, I am very much PRO-CHOICE. You're writing however, is just unbelievable. Your use of the English language leaves me with a loss of mine. I can't think of any other time in my life when I can say nothing but praises on how something pertaining to pro-life was written. This is so amazing that I don't even want to debate the actual topic with you.:faint:

once again you've done it, reeled me in, tapped into my emotions and left me debating the issue in my own mind. Gifted you

 That a pro-choicer can express this dilemma so well illustrates, no exposes, the raw complexity of this issue. Abortion is tragic, but not allowing it generates a whole variety of frightening consequences.

my body fell heavy and i could feel the pressure in face of the before tears feeling...I do think whether a person is a believer in "god" or not, this should not be taken absolutely beautiful piece.

what movie was it that you saw? I would very much like to see it. Also. I love this poem. it made me cry.
I think abortion would be okay in the case of maybe the mother is dying because of it...(but even on that im iffy) I dont know if thats considered pro choice. To save a life by sacrificing another is not how i beleive. if a woman is raped she can give it up for adoption. (which is also terrible in my opinion). But I dont understand why people cant just take responsibilty for their actions. even if your has become your responsibility. it sounds cruel but thats the way the world works on so many levels. Im sure anyone could find the happiness in having a child..
FrauBlau Featured By Owner Sep 12, 2009
Beautifully said. Very powerful. I especially like the phrase "gift in disguise" :)
Im glad to see someone who is pro-choice (I would consider myself pro-choice also) but still feels compassion for the life that is lost in the process. I'm not implying that most pro-choicers don't care about the unborn, but that's the stereotype, apparently :/
lisalovesphotos Featured By Owner Sep 12, 2009
such a beautiful and emotionally charged verse,
that my heart could burst.

I know someone that had to have a abortion because being pregnant would have killed them by the end of the pregnancy due to medical problems.

No wonder I was told to make sure I check out your gallery because you write so many beautiful things.

What an absolutely beautiful read in it's own, profound way.

I want to run up to Momma and say "No! You can't, you mustn't! Besides she's famous, Tas wrote about her! :P "

Fabulous, we simply MUST have more!! :D

This is beautiful. Made me very sad. You never hear the baby's point of view. I'm not sure where I stand on the issue of abortion. I can never decide. I try to think of what I would do in different situations, but I still don't know.

Great writing as always. :)
Dawnelle-Blue Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2009   Photographer
Wow! This is so beautiful and causes me to feel several emotions at one time. Very heart-wrenching to say the least. Certainly does make you consider both points of view. I cannot judge a mother who has made the decision to abort her child, as I have never walked in those shoes. I hope I never have to. It has to be the hardest, most painful decision one could ever make. But I do believe people should use birth control if they aren't ready to be a parent. You did a great job on this my friend!! :tighthug:
